This is a squadron of Spitfires mk IX climbing in the clouds.
I chose a vertical format in order to illustrate the power of these planes and I found that the most interesting way of showing this plane was not the war, but simply clouds.
The spit was modeled in NURBS and rendered with mental ray.
A good example to try Maya 7 and the new multi pass ! Shadows, Specular, Occlusion, fluids, and motion blur were rendered separately in a single psd file.
Clouds in foreground are in fluid, and the background was built from many photos in photoshop.
Some details were also added in photoshop, like color correction and luminosity.
